When it comes to acne treatment products, most people simply buy products based on advertisements or recommendations from friends. This is the wrong way to go about it.Most of us have different types of acne that require a specific treatment. There is no one size fits all in acne treatments. Each person is different and so is our skin, therefore ,before you buy an acne treatment product make sure you know everything there is to know about your skin.
1.Know Your Acne.
Get to know what type of acne you have.Is it cystic acne, blackheads, whiteheads or papules. Read my article on the types of acne What Type Of Acne Do You Have? Identifying and understanding your acne will help you choose the best suited and most effective treatment .
2. Acne Demands a Great Deal of Patience.
Am sure you have been enticed by false advertising on T.V ,"Get rid of Acne in 14 Days","You want to get rid of acne right away? Then buy this ABC product.” Sounds familiar? How many times have you been enticed by those kind of ads? and I can guarantee you 100% that so far you have always been disappointed. .
Acne treatment requires a great deal of patience- it may take months before you see a clearer skin while using a product.I have had acne for 2 decades so i know what am talking about. Sometimes its good ,sometimes its bad. You will try tens of products but along the way you will find one that works for your skin. Stick with it.
3.Know the Ingredients of your treatment.
What makes up your acne treatment should match with what you need to treat your acne. Different ingredients are necessary for effective treatment for different kinds of acne.Blackheads and whiteheads are the mildest forms of acne. These can sometimes be cleared up by using salicylic acid-based products or benzoyl-peroxide spot treatments. Comedones are easily treated with topical retinoids but cystic acne will not clear up with over the counter products and one will need to visit a dermatologist for oral or topical prescriptions.
4. Know The Side Effects of Acne Treatment Products.
Be informed about your skin type and the acne treatment product you use.Make sure to test the product on a small part of your skin before using it on your face. However due to the harsh nature of the ingredients used in most acne treatments, its common to have some side effects such as flaking of the skin, redness and inflammation
To avoid these side effects you can use natural/home acne treatment especially if you have mild acne.Read my article on natural treatment options.Home Remedies for treating acne.
5. Don't Use too many acne Products at the same time.
You should also use caution in using too many acne products at once since this can cause dry skin. In response, your pores will create more sebum, leading to more acne flare ups.
Conclusion
Before you purchase any acne treatment product ,do some research first.Find out what acne type you have and the ingredients of the product you intend to buy.Buy the smallest size of the product first to test if it will work for your skin. This will save you money in case it wont work as expected. Once you find the perfect treatment , stock up on it so you wont be dissapointed when it finished and its no longer available at the supermarket .
